When the Government Fails

by | Oct 11, 2021 | Archives

We can have security and pursue our passions when governments fail.  In fact this is something we SHOULD do regardless of our government.

I’m a George Orwell fan, not so much due to “1984”, but because “Animal Farm”, so elegantly explains the “Law of the Jungle”.  If you have not read this novella, I recommend it, or at least look up the Sparksnotes Summary (1) or watch the two hour “Animal Farm” movie on Youtube (2).

Animal Farm is an allegory about the rise to power of the dictator Joseph Stalin.  Animals In the novella, overthrow of the human oppressor by a democratic coalition of animals. The democracy quickly gives way to the consolidation of power by the pigs who establish themselves as the ruling class in the new society.

There are so many lessons in this book, but the one thought that has remained so strongly with me is when the pig “Napoleon”, who has become a dictator, sells the sick work horse “Boxer”, the most loyal and long-suffering worker for the cause, to a glue maker in order to get money for whisky.

My dad with “Boots”, a lion we raised from the Portland Zoo. (Circa 1955).

Raising lions and tigers at our home taught me about animal law.  These incredible felines were wonderful pets, warm and loving (especially tigers)… unless at meal time you stuck your hand between them and their food.  Making that mistake taught me the law of the jungle at an early age.

The human species is top of the food chain because we can suppress animal law and cooperate through a highly efficient language. But this human interaction requires agreement by those involved on some basic laws, ideals, rules, restrictions and freedoms, to work. The human laws create a platform of agreed understanding.  The laws then need a platform to operate from, that we call a hierarchy.

Hierarchies require administrators to monitor and enforce the laws, agreements and even change rules so the hierarchy can adapt.  Once the administrator takes charge the nature of all animals including humans is that the people who run the platform will become pigs, even if there is a strong system of checks and balances.

The universal law causes the administrators to resist change and remain in charge of the hierarchy.

Pig drawn by my sister Sandra Strait.

Businesses, cities, states and nations are all hierarchies.  Most of their leaders wish to remain in charge as long as they can so when problems occur they solve them by making short term solutions that require payment in the future.  Simultaneously, they create an educational and information system that is aimed at getting the majority of the population to believe in these solutions.

Politicians find it expedient to make promises that future generations will have to pay.   Eventually the future arrives and the promises cannot be kept.  The majority of the population stop believing  in the  promises, the hierarchy and the administrators.

We are seeing the results of this type of mess unfold now.

I read “Animal Farm” as a teenager so even in the 1970s, my first book, “Passport to International Profit” warned of the “Soil Defense Syndrome”, the “Duck in the Pond Problem” and showed ways to avoid governments and become “One Man Multinationals”.

In short, the book showed how to live anywhere, but earn everywhere and how to create and manage one’s own income and pension and escape the tyranny of the governing pigs.

If you look back at my writing of the past 50 years, you’ll not find many fond words about any federal administration or government.   So please don’t close your mind because I don’t support whichever side of the divide you are on.  My belief is that they are all pigs in this allegorical way and that we have to be independent of them.

If you are relying on any one man, woman or federal administration to make your life better, please think again.  History strongly suggests that when push comes to shove, the law of the jungle emerges and they will all sell you to the glue factory and let you down!

Prehistoric pig by Sandra.

There is a trending idea in social media that the US is going to go through a period of heightened risk of a civil war.

First of all, be careful.  I immediately asked myself, “who benefits from such thoughts”.  “Where are the hidden agendas?”

Yet I also think to myself, “OMG, as crazy as it sounds, something like this is already happening”.

The polarization of the country is already pretty clear.  If the 2020s are anything like the 1920 “Roaring Twenties”, there is a good chance that sometime in this decade, the US and the world are likely to face a severe recession.

As taxes fall and the government increases spending, inflation will set in, but interest rates will be kept low (stagflation) due to the existing huge debt. Baby boomer retirement purchasing power will be shredded.  As the government tries to cope with the tensions and defend against other countries (especially China) that are facing similar problems, austerity laws will have to be passed. The austerity will ruin lifestyles and increase the division between the two sides of the political positions as they fight over dwindling resources.

Warthog by Sandra

Maybe such a war has already begun because the federal government demands too much. State and local governments have become so fed up they defy and take over from Washington.

This is happening.

When the federal response is too heavy-handed, insurrection begins.  We have already seen this happen in my hometown of Portland Oregon.

Last year’s article in England’s Guardian newspaper,  “Portland protests: federal agents’ actions draw city into a national debate” shows how too much enforcement can backfire.

Federal agents in Portland, Oregon, have detained protesters in unmarked vans, teargassed crowds, beaten reporters and worked without visible identification or insignia in recent days, as Black Lives Matter protests in the city near the end of their eighth consecutive week.

The agents have acted despite the objections of Portland’s mayor, Ted Wheeler, the Oregon governor, Kate Brown, and Oregon’s two Democratic senators.

They have met resistance in the streets from protesters but also now in the courts and from politicians, as Oregonians discern national implications in Donald Trump’s insertion of federal forces into policing in Portland.

Was this a Fort Sumpter shot?

On the other side a Politico magazine article, “Why Are Republican Governors Sending National Guard to the Border?” (4) shows how the current administration’s lack of response is also creating defiance.

The article says: Over the last month, 8 Republican state governors have sent (or said they’ll send) armed personnel to the Texas-Mexico border.

Who are these “armed personnel”? It differs state to state. Arizona, South Dakota, Iowa and Arkansas are sending National Guard troops, while Ohio, Nebraska and Florida are sending their Highway Patrol troopers or other state law enforcement agents. Texas has sent both.

Pigs, pigs, pigs (by Sandra). They are a natural part of the infrastructure.

We Can Still Have Security and Pursue our Passions

Many people bought into the unsustainable promises made by politicians of generations past.

I and many of my readers did not.  Maybe the dozen or so lions and tigers we raised made me aware that the law of the jungle was always just below the veneer.

That’s why for the past 50+ years we have dedicated our publications to the ideals of placing our wealth, our lifestyles, our true freedom and independence, beyond the grasp of any government.

Prof. Yuval Noah Harari is a historian, philosopher, and the bestselling author of Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind, Homo Deus: A Brief History of Tomorrow, 21 Lessons for the 21st Century, and Sapiens: A Graphic History. His books have sold over 30 Million copies in 60 languages, and he is considered one of the world’s most influential public intellectuals today.

He says in his books, “Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind” and “Homo Deus: A History of Tomorrow”: “

As the twenty-first century unfolds, nationalism is fast losing ground. More and more people believe that all of humankind is the legitimate source of political authority, rather than the members of a particular nationality, and that safeguarding human rights and protecting the interests of the entire human species should be the guiding light of politics.” The governmental tortoise cannot keep up with the technological hare. “Precisely because technology is now moving so fast, and parliaments and dictators alike are overwhelmed by data they cannot process quickly enough, present-day politicians are thinking on a far smaller scale than their predecessors a century ago. Consequently, in the early twenty-first century politics is bereft of grand visions. Government has become mere administration. It manages the country, but it no longer leads it.”

We should not depend on any one man, woman or administration to protect us, make us happy or fulfilled.  Harari gives us a clue of what we can do (bolds are mine).

“We study history not to know the future but to widen our horizons, to understand that our present situation is neither natural nor inevitable, and that we consequently have many more possibilities before us than we imagine. “It takes a lot of courage to fight biases and oppressive regimes, but it takes even greater courage to admit ignorance and venture into the unknown. Secular education teaches us that if we don’t know something, we shouldn’t be afraid of acknowledging our ignorance and looking for new evidence. Even if we think we know something, we shouldn’t be afraid of doubting our opinions and checking ourselves again. Many people are afraid of the unknown, and want clear-cut answers for every question. Fear of the unknown can paralyse us more than any tyrant. People throughout history worried that unless we put all our faith in some set of absolute answers, human society will crumble. In fact, modern history has demonstrated that a society of courageous people willing to admit ignorance and raise difficult questions is usually not just more prosperous but also more peaceful than societies in which everyone must unquestioningly accept a single answer. People afraid of losing their truth tend to be more violent than people who are used to looking at the world from several different viewpoints. Questions you cannot answer are usually far better for you than answers you cannot question.”

Learn how to use modern technology but not be dependent on it.  Live anywhere, but earn everywhere and use our mantra of many decades “Turn your passion into profit” so when governments fail they won’t let you down.

Cash in on the new normal.

If the pandemic taught us anything it’s that the so called “experts” really don’t have a clue how to solve this problem. We cannot rely on their information. Instead, we need to plan for and prepare for our own “new normal” if we want to survive.

The pandemic has not been the real problem.

The global response to this viral outbreak is just a symptom of a world that’s sliding into a devastation and disorder.  The worst turmoil is still to come because of economic, social and demographic tensions that have been building for 70 years.

With mounting government debt, globally, the current economic system that has run the global economy for decades, is in decline and disorder.

The current social economic archetype has already killed millions and destroyed the finances and lives of far more.   Worldwide, unemployment is at an all-time high.  Many businesses have been destroyed.

Governments are trying to solve the problem by throwing money on the fire and are they are being crushed in debt in the process.

Yet, the problem is just a beginning, because al that holding the system together is low interest rates and a lack of belief in inflation.

Yet inflation is here and with it will come higher interest rates that can crush stock markets and ruin the ability of governments everywhere to pay their debts.

To survive the coming economic downturns, you’ll need to learn the importance of adjusting how you live, work, invest and take care of yourself for the next ten to fifteen years!
You can’t rely on governments to bail you out.

That’s exactly what Merri and I have been doing for the last 50 years.

We have learned the power of being able to adapt to constantly changing markets all over the world and created a not-so small fortune while doing so.  That’s why we’re uniquely qualified to teach you how to not just survive but to PROSPER during the challenging times ahead. Chaos always creates many opportunities for those who know how to spot them and take advantage of them. A good example has been the mass exodus from urban areas to more rural areas.

Since many are working from home, they can live anywhere. There is a shortage of good housing in rural areas now. Merri and I are buying then rehabbing houses to full the gap.  We saw this opportunity coming and jumped in early.

We let readers know of the risks of a pandemic, back in 2016.

Many are already enjoying a safer more secure and financially stable lifestyle already despite the lockdowns and crumbling economy.

Instead of waiting for things to get better, start preparing for things to get worse, much worse.

You also need to learn how to spot opportunities which are all around you. As the economy changes, the opportunities will change too.

That’s why Merri and I keep a constant pulse on opportunities worldwide and report our findings to a special club of unique individuals that we started over 30 years ago. For decades, this club has been called the International Club, but this year we renamed it the Pruppie Club.

What is a Pruppie?

Pruppieism, the new economic and social realism.  Pruppies, like Yuppies, expect everything to expand. They take advantage of every new benefit and technology they can. Pruppies enjoy using the fruits of our ancestor’s deliberations and labors to earn in this advanced technological world.

Pruppies, also, like Preppers, engage in activity that they love that will sustain them when society and the incredibly intricate weave of our global economy and society let us down.

We need to be both, Yuppies and Preppers, Pruppies!

Take profit from the incredible new technology that gives us super powers to earn and grow wealth. Be safe and secure, when social economic tidal waves like plagues, stagflation fascism and communism overwhelm the world.

Pruppies are prepared in case everything, everywhere, or at least everything relating to their income and savings fails and the fabric that surrounds their lives disintegrates into an unknown veil.

Yet a Pruppie’s preparation is not a sacrifice, but a joy as you will see.

Learn how you can become a Pruppie.

Enormous, economic, social, political and productivity change was already in the process.  The pandemic however has accelerated and accentuated the process. You still have time to join the few who are left standing from the 2020 disaster.

You still have time to become one who will prosper during the 2020 decade. You can be one of a small elite group who will be able to help restore a healthy world order. The world will be very different from what we have known for the past seventy years, but when looked at in a framework of longer history… it’s the same old tale.

The last couple of millennia are filled with stories of empires rising and falling.  There are basic conditions in each of these tales.

  • First the idea of debt loses its real meaning and rising to levels that are unsustainable.
  • Interest rates charged for debt fall to extremely low levels so the idea of investing for a known amount stops making sense.
  • Central monetary authorities replace innovation and increased productivity as activators of the economy.
  • Disparity of wealth widens dramatically and the spread increases.
  • There is so much divisiveness in politics within countries that social and political conflicts spiral.

We’re seeing these changes rapidly happening now!

I learned how to turn land into income producing property cheap and cashed in on the glamping craze a decade before the word was invented.  I want to share this trick with you.

Social and economic deterioration restricts safety, lifestyle, well-being and peace of mind. Social and economic shifts of this nature reduce the purchasing power of income.

Inflation, for example puts pensions and savings at risk.

Growing deception allows manipulation of medical care, finances, the value of homes, how cars are bought, the price of gas, the education and raising of children, the food we buy and eat, the shows watched and the ways we work and play.

A very large and growing part of the public throughout the Western world no longer believes in the integrity of local or national government, law enforcement, health care, banking, pensions, legal systems, educational processes, media or church, just to name a few.

However, mistrust of anything authorities say has become so deeply rooted that even health assurances as serious as the pandemic have not been believed.

I invite you to join Merri and me in expecting the world to get better… to live and earn based on that expectation but…  to also prepare for bad times as well as good.  Just in case… the world goes sideways… we will still survive and prosper.

We do not give up anything much.  We can enjoy the good parts of the new economy, as we protect ourselves from what can be bad.

Let me be clear.  I expect that the world will get better, at least for the few who adapt and avoid the dangers that the changes from the COVID pandemic will bring.

The wealth of the world, albeit with inequality, will continue to grow.  This collapse of the global economy will bring an incredible new opportunity for those who know what to do.  These profit making avenues offer enormous income potential and even work well in disaster scenarios. Join the Pruppie Club so you can wake up every day knowing that you are prepared and in charge of your destiny.
