Cotacocha is a small village built on a lush promontory about 5,400 feet above seas level.
The benefits of a farming lifestyle, far from the maddening crowd is what attracted Merri and me to Ecuador as well as the Blue Ridge. Our hacienda outside of Calacali is very remote as it our farm in North Carolina. This is also why we chose to live in Cotacachi, a village of about 10,000 people. These villages are large enough to have all the creature comforts, but small enough to avoid the maddening crowd.
This is why Vilcabamba and Cotacachi have seen so many expats moving in.
One small village not far from the village of Vilcabamba and the city of near Loja is Catacocha a village of about 11,000 people.

Cotacocha Farm for Sale
The farm is about 4,500 feet above sea level and farmhouse is brick construction with re-enforced columns and foundation.
There are lush gardens around the house.
The ceiling is cathedral style with tongue & groove showing over the beams. The house has 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, entrance, kitchen and living area.
The patio faces the view to the West.
The farm still has a good cover of trees so it is ideal for growing coffee, but it also has many plateaus that could be cleared for other crops. It has pastured beef cattle for many years and is fenced.
Views are outstanding.
We have a spring as a source of drinking water which comes down from the mountain about 900 meters (984 yards) away. We also have the main quebrada (mountain stream) running through the middle of the property so there is always a flow of water, although it is minimal during the dry months (June through November).
The dirt road to Catacocha is normally well maintained, it is a distance of 3.5km (2 miles) or about a 10 minute drive.
For those who don`t want to drive there is a Ranchero that takes the locals into Town passing by our house at 8:00 in the morning.
