The Power of Anticipation

by | Dec 24, 2012 | Archives

One of life’s greatest forces is anticipation. The proof?

Christmas Eve as a kid… when things are good.

Looking back many years ago to Rockwood, Oregon. The Sears and Montgomery Ward catalogs had been read. The tree was up. Gifts were wrapped and stacked shimmering beneath lights that bubbled in the dusk and reflected each a tiny burst of anticipation.and that anticipation had been building… for days!

christmas tree

Our Florida Christmas Tree.

The heck with anticipation!  The goal was to get unwrapping… to talk mom and dad into letting us open gifts on Christmas eve.   We never had 100% luck with this but we never gave up either.

“OK, but only one small gift”, they would eventually say.   Then they chose some little thing… maybe socks from Aunt Vi.

Off we went to bed still filled with anticipation. Talk about early risers!

On this day  of anticipation, I would like the send one small gift to you here… a golden word.

The story behind the gift began nearly 20 years ago we began a new adventure in life… in Ecuador.  We had just retired from our print business and while exploring Ecuador met a a great Andean Yatchak.  He was a great philosopher and healer who had been in training since the age of three.  He had studied under many masters and had earn the impressive honor “the Force of Great Light” by the Shamanic Council of South America.

We worked and loved with the Yatchak for many years and one day when he was visiting us in Florida we were driving along I-75 when he suddenly blurted out… “stop the car, I want to teach you a Golden Word”.

The Yatchak was spontaneous that way. When the forces of nature gave him a sign to do something… he would do it NOW.  The fact we were cruising along at 70 MPH meant nothing at all.

I pulled into a roadside rest area and he gave us the Golden Words for prosperity.

These words are our gift to you on this day of anticipation. The words are “Golden Orange.”

Here is how the Yatchak explained the use of these words.  “The Golden words for prosperity are Golden Orange.  If you want prosperity visualize the Golden Orange color of sunrise every day.”

Merri and I have always done this since and our business and lives have enjoyed an every increasing flow of richness, happiness and fulfillment since.

I am sure…. experience, hard work and luck have had a lot to do with this also. but there is a scientific basis for the power of these golden words.

The science covers two concepts.

The first concept is the Power of Visualization.  When you imagine something… your body reacts almost as if you are actualizing the event.

This power has been revealed in numerous studies.  One example is a study conducted by Dr. Blaslotto at the University of Chicago.  The Doctor divided subjects into three test groups to see how many basketball free throws they could make.

After this test the three groups were given different tasks.  One test group practiced free throws every day for an hour.

The second test group just visualized free throws.

The third group did nothing.

After a month the first group who actually threw the free throws improved 24%.

The second group who only visualized improved 23%.

The third group did not improve at all.

The second concept is the impact of color and light on the pineal gland.

Light and color are important activators of the pineal gland.

The pineal is an important regulator of endocrine functions.  This gland also plays a role in converting nervous system signals into endocrine signals.

This is important to success because endocrine signals mechanisms are quite  different than signals from the nervous system.  Endocrine signals tend to build slowly (compared to nervous signals), but are lasting from hours to weeks.

Nervous system signals flash very quickly and should be short lived.

Pineal hormones regulate chemical mediators that impact human functions, including metabolism, growth and development, tissue function, and mood.

The frequency of sunrise (that we classify as golden orange) awaken the body through the pineal.

The color orange seems to play an important role.

Even oranges have a positive impact on the pineal.

A study entitled “Serum melatonin levels and antioxidant capacities after consumption of pineapple, orange, or banana by healthy male volunteers” was just published last month (November 2012).

Here is the abstract of the study (Bolds are mine – the entire study is linked below):  Melatonin is a naturally occurring molecule biosynthesized by the pineal gland of vertebrates; it also has been identified in many plants. It is considered an important antioxidant and may retard the development of some neurodegenerative diseases and cancer. Previous studies in humans have measured melatonin metabolites in urine and have indicated that melatonin-containing foods may provide dietary melatonin. This study tested whether the consumption of fruits or fruit juice containing melatonin would influence the serum melatonin concentration and antioxidant status. In this crossover study, 12 healthy male volunteers took either juice extracted from one kilogram of orange or pineapple or two whole bananas, with a 1-wk washout period between the fruit or fruit juices. An enzyme-linked immunosorbent (ELISA) assay was used to determine the serum melatonin concentration. Serum antioxidant capacity was determined by ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) assay and oxygen radical antioxidant capacity (ORAC) assay. The highest serum melatonin concentration was observed at 120 min after fruit consumption, and compared with before consumption levels, their values were significantly increased for pineapple (146 versus 48 pg/mL P = 0.002), orange (151 versus 40 pg/mL, P = 0.005), and banana (140 versus 32 pg/mL, P = 0.008), respectively. Serum antioxidant capacity following fruit consumption also significantly increased in both the FRAP (7–14% increase, P ≤ 0.004) and ORAC (6–9% increase, P = 0.002) assays. Both the serum FRAP and ORAC values strongly correlated with serum melatonin concentration for all three fruits. These findings suggest that tropical fruit consumption increases the serum melatonin concentrations and also raises the antioxidant capacity in the serum of healthy volunteers in proportion to serum melatonin levels.

What this yatchak’s gift to meant to me was that if I visualized the golden orange of sunrise… I would stimulate endocrine responses that would help my moods be more positive and help provide a sustained balance in mind and body so I can act on this positivity.

gary-scott-novel

We believe strongly in this and it dictated the look, feel and color of the cover of my first novel. This is also why each message we send is surrounded by golden orange.

I take this a step further in my daily routine.  I visualize but also use the sun to awaken each day.

Sunrise is a daily anticipation for me.

Here is what I get to see each morning sitting at my desk in Florida typing away.

sunrise

I can’t wait and though I’ve seen it each day this explosion of color is always a surprise. So each night is filled with anticipation another day a dawn and a cup of coffee plus being able to share with you.coming into your home with hopefully some tiny positive idea. (Thanks by the way for being such a part of my anticipation).

In Ecuador we have the anticipation of the church bells and a glorious dawn.   In North Carolina… we have wonderful golden orange mornings as well. b

In each of our homes I have placed my work station to face the rising sun.  I visualize and actualize the sun’s golden orange for prosperity.

This is why your own self publishing business can be so wonderful. Each morning can be filled with anticipation.   I grab my French press filled with Ecuadorian organic coffee…  pad to my computer and even before dawn check yesterday’s mail. Then I read the insights shared by you.  Then I write whatever inspiration the dawn has sent to me.

Some days I get notes about our publishing course like this:  Gary, Last night when I arrived home from work and was mentally and physically exhausted; stressed by some airline customer issues and moving boxes for our office modernization. After dinner, my plan was to delve into the Publication manual but when I found my eyelids fluttering, I thought my plan was in jeopardy. As I settled into the recliner with the manual having adjusted the light to focus on the material, something amazing occurred as I began to read. A hypnotic trance ensued as I forgot about being tired. The first few pages invoked a new page in my life; what if there were no obstacles or limits what would you do and what makes your heart thump. I have to tell you, the brainstorming was astounding. I began to drop ideas into this bucket that are important to me and finally ran out of room. Picking three was really difficult, so difficult that I added two more topics on separate pages with actions.

Normally I head for bed around 9:30 PM since I rise at 4:30 each morning for my typical routine in preparation for the daily grind. Surprise – it was approaching 10:30 PM and I was shocked. Your material mesmerized me to continue reading and time meant absolutely nothing, I was in a time warp. What I’m attempting to explain here is, this manual is so well written that it stimulates your enthusiasm and creativity ten-fold. This hasn’t happened to me in a very long time. Also learned about how you began (in the N.W.) and what it took to succeed. Now we have the opportunity to follow you and Merri’s direction to excel without boundaries…..Thank you. With sincere regards to you and Merri

This is the type of reading for me that is worthy of anticipation which is why there is so much focus at this site to help you have your own self publishing business.

May your views be filtered with “Golden Orange” and your life filled with positive anticipation.

Happy Christmas Eve.

Gary

Seven P Secrets of Self Publishing

When you write, you can work anywhere.

gary-scott-image

Here I am working poolside in the winter, at our Florida farm.

gary scott

Here I am with our hound Ma, working during the summer at our North Carolina farm.

Learn how to earn everywhere, while living anywhere you choose.  I have been able to earn by writing in Hong Kong, England, the Isle of Man, Dominican Republic and Ecuador to name a few of the places I have lived.   Anywhere I am,  I am  able to work.

All I need is my laptop.

That’s all you need too… a laptop to be free!

Before computers, a pencil and pad did the job.

Freedom is just one benefit you can gain from a laptop business.

Another benefit is income.   Writing has brought me both our farms in Florida and North carolina, free and clear… plus a lot more.

Another good example of earning potential is my friend Hugh Howey.   He was working for $10 an hour in a book store when he self published his novel Wool, typing in a storage room during his lunch breaks.

Soon he was earning over $100,000 a month on Amazon.com.  This helped secure a six-figure book deal from Simon & Schuster, and an option for film by Ridley Scott, director of Blade Runner and Alien.

That’s what he’s doing now.

Hugh Howey

Hugh and I playing chess (he beats me badly).

Writers like Hugh are great inspirations.

A couple of years ago Hugh  left Florida, and moved to South Africa.  He had a sailing catamaran built for him and now can sail the world while he continues to write.

Hugh explained it like this: And that’s the miracle of working as a writer: I can do it from anywhere and everywhere. The past few years, I’ve done a lot of writing from airplanes and airports while on business trips abroad.  SAND was entirely written overseas while traveling through seven different countries; I think it’s a better story because of those inspirations.  In upcoming years, I may be writing near your home port.

Hugh’s a super star writer and his success could not happen to a more deserving and talented person.  He pours enormous energy into being worthy of his readership.  But you do not have to be a million dollar a year earner or a traveler to benefit from writing.

The good news is… you do not need a huge success to have a rich and fulfilled lifestyle.  Self Publishing can bring you a life that most people only dream of, as a journeyman writer, instead of a super star.

May I hastily add that the path to stardom begins as a journeyman… so the journeyman’s path brings success without stardom… but can also lead to stardom.

What most success stories like Hugh’s rarely explain is the many hours of writing that was devoted before their self published book sales soared.   Hugh, like most writers were journeymen first.  Stardom came later.

Here are sevens secrets that can help you become a journeyman writer.

The secrets are a writer’s armory of tools that allows almost anyone to create successful publications for income, freedom and fulfillment.

Take Merri’s and my publishing business as an example.

Merri and I are not writing stars.  We are journeymen who have for more than 40 years, year in and year out, earned solid income writing and self publishing dozens of publications about multiple subjects.

Some years that income has been more than solid… over a million dollars.  Yet in terms of stardom, we are hardly known.

In a moment you’ll see why that’s fine for us and probably will be for you too.

First some history.

Merri became involved in self publishing over 40 years ago… first helping a veterinarian publish a book on a very specific market… animal acupuncture. Then she showed a needle point artist how to sell more books to an even more specific audience… “needle point enthusiasts”  about her needle point work to an audience larger than the population of the city she lived in.  This led Merri to eventually become Executive Editor of an award winning magazine in Florida.

My story allowed Merri and me to work and live from Hong Kong to London to Europe to Eastern Europe, then the Caribbean and then Ecuador… making millions in the process of following our adventures… having fun… while helping a large readership adapt to a rapidly changing world.

That’s what self publishing can bring, profit, adventure and fulfillment, a great feeling of worth and wonder.

Self Publishing has created exactly the lifestyle we desire allowing us to span the world and work with meaning and purpose.

Self Publishing has become a new business art form.

The seven secrets can help you start your own self publishing business now.

Everything in publishing is new and exciting and changing.  Publishing is being recreated by the wonderful power of destructive technology.

Everything is new… except the seven secrets.

Change in the publishing industry is disturbing many.   We love this evolution due to these seven secrets we call the 7Ps.  The 7 Ps are so fundamental to writing and publishing that new technology enhances rather than reduces their power.

The First P is Passion.

Whatever your passion, you can immerse yourself in it AND create income with self publishing.  This can be your direct ticket to the kind of fulfillment you’ve always wanted.

Whether you want to travel the world or live as a recluse, work 12 hours a day or not work much at all,  you can set your schedule to succeed, if you’re willing to learn these seven secrets.

You can start part-time with any dream, passion, and budget.  Once you’ve created a product, you’ll enjoy the “multiple effect” of producing profits over and over again.

So the question is… What do you love to do?

What’s Your Passion:  An example is that thirty years ago, a client of Merri’s had a passion to help people who were in pain?  He published a series of pamphlets explaining various chiropractic disorders in very simple terms.  For example: “What Is Whiplash?”

The pamphlets contained solid information, but were simple 5″ x 7″ brochures with drawings and explanations. He sold them with a rack to chiropractors, who put them in their offices for patients to read.  These little self-published items sold year in and year out for decades.

There are thousands of ideas of this sort that can lead to big business.  It’s just a matter of defining and then acting on your passion.

Although I can work when I please and go where I wish, for me the most important reason for being a publisher is the satisfaction it brings.

I love the projects I take on, so work doesn’t feel like, well… work.

What do you love?  If you love golf, then you can write and sell publications about golf.  Love travel, fishing, dogs, dolls, or art?  Write and sell publications in these fields.

Are you concerned about crime, war, poverty or environmental issues?  You can publish information products that help reduce these concerns.

Would you like to help the world be a more spiritual place?  Publish a newsletter, write a book (or hire someone to write it for you), record a tape… publish something that enlightens people.

Whatever your passion, you can immerse yourself in it and earn income by publishing for ereaders, print on demand, CDs, lists, bound books, or any format you choose.

Be immersed in your passion and get paid well for it.

This is why stardom is not the main goal for most writers and self publishers.  Extra income, more freedom and fulfillment are usually more than enough enough.

The seven Ps are:

#1: Passion

#2: Problem

#3: Person

#4: Profitably Priced Product

#5: Prospecting Pathway

#6: Promise

#7: Presentation

The first time I exposed others to the secrets in Self Publishing was in a weekend “Writer’s Camp” seminar.  We offered the camp for $1,500. 80 delegates enrolled.  People from all walks of life attended—chiropractors, businessmen, investors, doctors, realtors, inventors, airline pilots, engineers, and housewives.

Merri and I were so overwhelmed by the response, we decided to make it available to a larger audience.  We created a written course based on our current self publishing activity called “Self Fulfilled – How to be a Self Publisher.”  Then we recorded the weekend “Writer’s Camp” seminar.

Thousands have used the course as it has evolved over the decades.

Writing to sell is one of the most powerful forms of marketing  and marketing is what we do in every aspect of life… every day.

The heart of all events requires marketing.  We market ourselves, our business, our thoughts ideas and beliefs all the time.  In business, marketing covers strategic planning, product design, packaging, distribution, advertising, public relations, promotions and sales.  Marketing is the process by which anything and everything, product, service, idea, person is introduced and promoted. Without marketing, you may be or have something great, but no one knows it.

All marketing begins with writing… whether, a speech, picture, video, movie, advertisement, announcement, banner,  jingle, song… the birth place is in the written word.

Why words are better than cash.

You can turn words into cash.  Mix in a little wisdom and deliver benefits.  The value of honest word’s never deflate.  A dollar, decades ago, was worth 15 greenbacks today… or more.   Useful, wise words, even hundreds of years aged… are often worth more now.

Take these 153 year old words: “Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent, a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.”

Has time diminished the value of these words?

Sometimes Merri’s and my writing led us into incredible adventures.
