Here is a report on natural health product business potential in Ecuador.
In Ecuador, we live in a country that has some exceptionally good soil, unique weather condition and that is rich in many medicinal plants and herbs.
If you have a passion you will eventually come across some unusual and unique products to sell. There are 2 qualities you need to look for in these potential winner products :
A) exclusivity or patent : you do not want competition
B) give VALUE to your customer. This makes them repeat customers. Value is a very interesting concept. You have to market your product and demonstrate that it is 10 times more valuable than its price!
C) The BIG secret of online business is…….THE E-MAIL LIST. Create an online list of e mails that share the same passion. I suggest that you study David Cross’ course on this website, on how to setup a business online and create that list. He explains the power of a focused e-mail list combined with an auto-responder which becomes the most valuable asset you can create and which will make money over and over for you.
D) If you cannot find a product, create one by writing an e-book that gives VALUE to your customer. You need to solve a problem! Others will have the same problem: See Gary & Merri’s Writers Camp.
As you know, one of my passions is Natural Health. I spend at least a couple of hours every day learning about my passion. Every now and then, I come across some “jewels”! Because of my 35 years of experience, I can see very quickly opportunities by blending products and markets.
Here is one recent example: I travel a lot (another passion that is paid by the natural health/anti-aging passion). During a dinner with a doctor-friend in Paris, he showed me his latest discovery : a product in a small 10cc bottle (10 bottles per box) that contains both a solid extract in the patented cap and a liquid in the bottle itself.
This patented spirulina product is 7,000 more concentrated than spirulina (contains phycocyanin) and is more efficient than spirulina because you mix at the last minute the dried extract (in the cap) and highly concentrated liquid extract, using a patented cap, which releases the dried extract in the liquid just before drinking it. The combination of the two is what makes it so potent!
In my field everyone knows very well what spirulina does for you….my friend has marketed the product just to naturopaths in Europe for now, just saying “7,000 times more powerful than spirulina”. The production lab had to increase 6 fold its output within 8 months to fill out orders. (Today they are constantly still back ordered).
The first thing I did, was to try the product myself and then secure the rights to North and South America. I have already a network in the US and I will setup via the internet a network in South America, with Quito as the main distribution center.
Ecuador also possesses a coast where we can grow the algae that produces the phycocyanin. When the market needs it, we can start producing locally for the whole SA continent.
This product has 3 unique qualities:
– easy to market because it can be attached to an existing concept, spirulina. You do not have to make any “claims” as the natural health people already know about what spirulina does! They just need to translate this 7,000 times more powerful and the work is done!
– patented and exclusive and super efficient = no competition
– 90% of customer re-orders and they keep taking it.
I will make a few videos talking about the product (without having to be making any health claims) and create a specific list of prospects and customers in North and South America (in English, Spanish and Portuguese).
The product will only be available at the end of 2012 in the US and SA but you have to start building your list early to draw the interest. You can use a blog to keep the interest going and keep your prospect alive reminding them that they can pre-order and be put on a waiting list. All this makes your product valuable that way also.
Write about your passion and your products on your website or blog. Tell stories….remember always : “It’s the story that sells!”
Another concept that has been taking over Europe in the last years is the plant/herbal stem cell called “gemmotheray”. The idea is very simple:
A genius scientist, Dr. Pol Henry, in Belgium found out that the buds of a specific plant had some very interesting properties totally different from the full grown leaves or fruits or roots.
They had incredible qualities. The part of the plant he used was the stem cells of the plant. One of my doctor/partner/friends had the chance to work with Pol Henry and he received all his valuable research before he passed. That research has never been published.
One of the big problems in plant stem cells is harvesting, as you get only a very small window every year to harvest the buds. These buds have to be harvested early in the morning to keep the condensed water (the energy/information) and must be put into a solvant immediately. Every harvester has a 1 gallon container where he immerses the buds just after picking, this keeps all active ingredients “alive”.
The product is therefore never dried and the extraction takes place after a 3 to 8 weeks maceration process in a 3 phase extraction: water-alcohol-glycerine. Each solvant will extract specific ingredients.
One can only imagine the type of actions some of those stem cell plant possess.
We have created a whole line of unique combination of plants for some specific purposes. These products will be available very soon in fall 2012.
These products have also 3 qualities:
– although not patentable, they are extremely hard to manufacture as you need the knowledge (kept confidential), the land to grow organically the plants and the manufacturing to extract it. So almost no competition.
– the plants are well known so you just need to tell what is different and better and why.
– the product gives good value as it sold at roughly the same price as standart plant extract.
Another area where Ecuador has the edge is the production of organically grown medicinal spices like turmeric, ginger. etc. There is a French herbalist in Puyo that produces these spices on a small farm and he sells it in Ecuador and a little bit abroad. The production cost in Ecuador is better than in most other areas if you know how to produce it without pesticides and chemical fertilizers. The key word of course “organic”.
During our agri expeditions we only work on farms that are converted into organic. In fact we have found out that it is cheaper to grow organic than with conventional methods in Ecuador.
