The argument for Ecuador each property is strong from several points of view. The first reason is price.

Let’s compare the values… Florida to Ecuador. I am looking at a beach front house in Lee County Florida. I chose Lee County because it is one of the most devastated real estate areas in the US.
The market has crashed so badly there that at one stage there was one foreclosure in Lee County every 30 seconds! The problem has been so bad that the court system has had to alter the way it works.
Excerpts from a recent Wall Street Journal article entitled, “A Florida Court’s ‘Rocket Docket’ Blasts Through Foreclosure Cases: by Michael Corkery explains:
While the Obama administration prepares to unveil on Wednesday its plan to rescue the U.S. housing market, officials here in Lee County have come up with their own unique plan for dealing with the crisis. To clear a huge backlog of foreclosures, judges are hearing “rocket dockets” of nearly 1,000 cases a day and calling retired colleagues back to the bench to help ease the workload.
The Lee County beach front house I am reviewing has been reduced from $1.4 million dollars to $850,000 and still has not sold.
That’s quite a reduction… only $850,000.
Or your could buy nine of the brand new, 1,200 square feet beach front condos in San Clemente at $89,000 each, for $801,000 and have $49,000 left over.
That $49,000 would go a long way as well. The taxes on each of those Ecuador beach condos are $36 a year… $324 a year… for all nine units!
The taxes on that Florida beach house in 2007 were 15,324.81. In a drastic reassessment the tax has dropped this year to $5,205.57… again, like the price, a huge drop. Yet the tax, even after a two thirds reduction, on that one Florida house is about 15 times higher than all nine condos put together.
Don’t get me wrong… I believe that Florida offers some exceptional values. This house may be a good buy. I plan to buy real estate in Florida.
