Here is a short story that exemplifies how Cotacachi cares.
This took place at the El Meson breakfast which is included in the inn’s room fee and given to all course delegates.
Many Americans and Canadians think of free breakfast as serve yourself boxed cold cereal and pastries served on cellulose plates lined up in a barren room with a TV blasting. Come and get it…on your own stuff.
Not here in Cotacachi. The breakfast is fully served including coffee, tea or herbal tea, eggs, toast, fresh fruit and each day a different juice…nothing canned or bottled…real juice squeezed from the ripe fruit just before it is served…plus bacon or ham…cooked to order.
There are people back there in the kitchen cooking and serving.
The staff sets the tables so they are almost works of art. This in a small way shows how Cotacachi cares… yet this is not the story.
The art work includes the butter.
The staff makes this from fresh, local, raw milk and adds the artwork from special molds they had carved in the village.
Yet this is not the story either. The story is in the raw milk which is also served in the Cafe con Leche (milky coffee).
On this tour the milk somehow tasted better…richer…more buttery?
We asked Eduardo…the head waiter who looks after the fruits, juices and turns breakfasts into art forms.
Here is Eduardo serving.
“Madam”…he told Merri. “I visited the dairies here and chose this one because the pasture is better.”
Eduardo had taken the time (not my idea…his) to go out and inspect the pasture land for the milk they use to make the butter and coffee.
That’s Cotacachi. That’s care.
