If one looks at the Ecuador weather reports for Quito and surrounds it seems that it shows “rain” almost every day. This is true, it rains a bit many days in Quito, but thank goodness, because most of the day it is sunny and clear and the sun is so intense that without those few clouds one would really burn.
There is a lot of night rain as well. This is a shot from our hotel bedroom of a typical sunrise, cloudy to begin but quickly with clearing skies.
Imagine this, clear skies, brilliant sun, but not too hot! That is the weather most of the time where we are in Ecuador.
In Cotacachi there are four seasons. All four seasons have the same temperature, but two are dry and two a bit wetter. The main seasons tend to coincide with the solstices and equinoxes (more or less) – so June 21st; starts a dry, sunny season. September 21st, starts to cloudier time that leads to more rain in November and early December. Dec 21st starts a dry season. Then around March 21st, the strongest rainy seasons of the year begins.
Temperatures in Cotacachi are almost perfect and do not change much. They range from 70-80 F when it is sunny and drop to 55F – 70F when it is cloudy.
