Ecuador’s food is often much fresher than up north. For example we think of blackberries as summer food. Here in Ecuador the land of eternal spring this delicious food is picked fresh year round. Ecuador’s Andeans really know how to use them as well. Fresh blackberry juice is a favorite Ecuadorian food.

Native to Europe, these berries are harvested for food all year round in Ecuador. They are sweet, sour and astringent and help cool the body so make a perfect food in sunny climes like Ecuador. Blackberries are also very alkaline, high in iron and are excellent blood builders.

Now here at El Meson, our restaurant the Quinoa Café has created a wonderful blackberry meringue pie with quinoa crusts. This is healthy, tasty and full of protein as well. Here it is.
