Then look for good value in the connections between these three aspects of life, nutrition, exercise and consciousness. Do this and you will prosper. You will enjoy fulfillment, joy and success. I promise!
Yet finding good international investments and living a balanced life is not so easy to do.
One reader and long time friend shared this thought when he wrote. “Hi Gary, You wrote, ‘The long haul, slow and steady, really does work best. If we are given 100,000 miles of existence we can drive them in 60 years, or 100 years…The slower journey is easier to see and enjoy. Quality, not volume, is what counts….among families, and really, among everything! If the world remembered this, the world would be in a better place than it is now.’
“Thanks, for that! It is something I need constant reminder of. In today’s fast-paced business world particularly, we are incessantly driven to accomplish more, at faster and faster paces. The end result is all too frequently a frenetic life and a weary spirit. Yet it is so easy to get caught up in it. Your philosophy of ‘slow and steady’ is one of the many things that I admire about your work. Keep up the good work. And keep those words of wisdom coming! Regards,”
Every minute, from the time we can understand words (perhaps even before) we are bombarded with messages images, thoughts, sights and sounds aimed at dimming our sense of value. We are swept into believing in lifestyles with distorted values.
We need to really focus on sweet, calm all knowing silence beneath all this noise.
This is one reason why each month we report the findings of our friend, statistical expert, Michael Keppler. He continually researches all major stock markets and compares their value based on current book to price, cash flow to price, earnings to price, average dividend yield, return on equity and cash flow return. He compares each major stock market’s history and from this develops his good value emerging stock markets strategy.
Keppler’s strategy is based solely on value. Michael’s research ignores all the nonsense sentiments, fashion, rumors, fears, downright lies and all the other illusions that drive so many people’s investment decisions.
Here is a condensation of Michael’s latest 2006 review of major market developments & outlook.
Last month global equity markets continued their recovery which started in the middle of June. The Morgan Stanley Capital International (MSCI) World Total Return Index advanced 0.6 % in both local currencies and in US dollars. In euros it gained 0.8 %. For the year, this benchmark has advanced 3.4 % in local currencies, 6.7 % in US dollars, but has declined 1.4% in euros due to the 8.2 % year-to-date rise of the euro versus the US dollar.
Of the eighteen markets covered here, twelve advanced and six declined this month. While Switzerland (+3.7 %), Spain (+3.3 %) and Belgium (+2.9 %) gained most, Australia (-1.9 %), Sweden (-1.4 %) and Japan (-0.4 %) came in at the bottom of the range of monthly returns.
Year to date Norway (+15 %), Spain (+11 %) and Hong Kong (+9.1 %) gained most, while Denmark (+1.3 %), Sweden (-0.1 %) and Japan (-1.7 %), came in last. Performance numbers are in local currencies unless mentioned otherwise.
There are no changes in our performance ratings this month. The Top Value Model Portfolio contains Belgium, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, the Netherlands and Singapore at equal weights. Our current ratings suggest that these markets offer the highest expectation of risk-adjusted returns.
Neutral value rated markets include Australia, Denmark, Norway, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom.
Low Value markets include Austria, Canada, Japan, Switzerland and the U.S.A.

Another long term reader and friend sent me this quote which is attributed to Socrates
“By all means marry.
If you get a good wife, you’ll be happy.
If you get a bad one, you’ll become a philosopher”
I replied that in this modern age we can have it all. I married young and became a philosopher. Then I married Merri and am happy!
In this day and age I would say the same is true for women…perhaps even more so and this leads me to the idea of family values in business. Family values come from more than just moms, dads and kids being together. Lifetime bindings come from shared efforts, common goals and jointly reached success. Yet in today’s world it’s harder to bring the family together even when doing so increases fulfillment and enhances our finances as well.
This bombardment of distorted values we looked at earlier is aimed at pulling families apart!
This is why Merri and I love and encourage small family businesses. One of our family’s greatest memories is sitting round the fireplace, stuffing envelopes and doing work for our clients. Our children loved working together and now as we are separated further and further by distance we have become closer from working in business together.
The kids when young came to seminars and helped, excited to see a new place, stay in hotels and be useful. They loved and wanted responsibility. They learned the joy of serving while young and now do not object to work. They love it instead.
We live in a sick society. This means the average person in our society is sick. They have sick bodies, sick habits, sick attitudes and sick minds. Kids want to be part of the crowd. This creates pressure for kids to do things that their peers do even if it is sick. Getting the kids involved in business can attract and help them stay away from bad crowds. The earlier they start the better. Life in the modern western world is an ever-increasing juggling act. We must keep up with work, do the mundane, have a social life and take time with the kids. How can we do all this? Working with the kids is one way that accomplishes all these tasks as it enhances your life and makes your business and investing more inspired.
This can really help couples as well. For nearly 25 years Merri and I have been within speaking distance of each other probably 90% of the time. We are lucky that we are so highly compatible and enjoy each other in so many ways…but there is more. Our love and devotion is bound and strengthened by the common goals, challenges and satisfaction of our business. A small family business can be a family and or couple’s focusing business.
Ecuador is a great place for a small family business because the people have wonderful family values.
Ayurved & Natural Health – Mango Salad
We have been looking at the good value of Mango as an end of summer food. Mango is a valuable source of vitamin C. It is also a good source of vitamin B1 and B2 and contains sufficient quantity of niacin. The chief food ingredient of mango is sugar. The acids contained in the fruit are tartaric acid and malic acid, besides a trace of citric acid. These acids are utilized by the body and they help to maintain the alkali reserve of the body.

Here is one more mango recipe as well.
Lettuce Mango and Avocado Salad
1 Romaine lettuce
2 boiled and diced eggs
2 teaspoons fresh ginger or ginger preserve
3 tablespoon olive oil
juice of 1/2 lemon or lime
Tear, do not cut lettuce. Cube mango and avocado and mix with lettuce and diced egg.
Mix in the chunks of fresh ginger or ginger preserve, olive oil, lemon or lime juice, salt and pepper. Pour dressing over salad and toss.
This is a great cooling food that helps nutrition at this time of the year when the body may have a build up of heat from the summer sun.
Until next message, may you values and international investments and international business be good.
