This message explains a unique form of healing called Syntonics which employs the Photo Synthesizer. This is an instrument that uses therapeutic applications of selected frequencies of light.
The College of Syntonic Optometry was formed in 1928 as a post graduation educational organization, to teach and train Optometrists on the application of light frequencies as a part of providing visual rehabilitation for patients.
Since the beginning of time, it has been recognized that good health came from fresh air, good diet, and sunlight. It has long been recognized that light has significant effects on the human being, even in regulating the circadian (day/night) cycle of how we were created to live.
The sun awakens us (a stimulus) to the dawn of each day and is more of the reds, oranges, yellow intensity of colors. While green is the balancing color of the trees and grass. Toward the evening it then changes to more the calming colors of blue, indigo, and violet acting as a relaxant. The cool, calming colors are not normally used in advertising for good reason…they are calming, like for bedrooms. Casinos or major restaurant chains might use a lot more hot colors like red, orange and yellow. Each of these colors can have definite effects on our behavior.
We know that the brain not the eye does the processing and creation of what we “SEE.” The eye only sends it the signal by way of the optic nerve for the brain to process the information. If a person's visual perception of how much information he is capable of processing by the brain is reduced, it can affect a person's reading ability, awareness, memory, depth perception, co-ordination, balance, memory or comprehension. By re-stimulating the eye's retina with specific frequencies of light, the retinal processing of visual information by the brain can be enhanced. These changes can be easily measured by the ability of the visual field to process increased levels of information.
An instrument called a Photo Synthesizer or Syntonizer is used in this phase of treatment. Only selected light frequencies from the visual spectrum are used. There is no laser light or other potentially hazardous forms of light incorporated with Syntonics that could be dangerous if used incorrectly by an improperly trained and licensed medical specialist on any part of the human eye or body.
Since eighty percent of learning occurs by way of the eyes, inefficient visual function can adversely affect all aspects of one's life, including academic achievement, athletic performance and proficiency at work. LIGHT AND COLOR
Dr. Harry Riley Spitler developed the clinical science, which he called Syntonics (from “syntony”, to bring into balance) in the 1920's. His research and clinical studies validated the profound effect that light has on human function and health.
Dr. Harry Wohlfarth, an authority on the effects of color on classroom performance, has found that lighting and colors chosen for walls and carpets in classrooms are major influence on attendance, performance and academic achievement.
Similarly, Dr. John Ott has found that lighting which more closely simulates natural sunlight has a positive effect on health, behavior and performance while typical artificial fluorescent light sources cause visual discomfort and lowered performance.
The use of light therapy has been recognized most recently in the treatment of SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) as the only known form of therapy for “winter blues” or depression. In 1985 psychiatry discovered light therapy. From the National Institutes of Health, in the United States, to medical clinics around the world, many individuals are now receiving exposures to bright light as treatment for Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD).
Light therapy is also commanding respect in the medical community as its benefits are investigated in the treatment of jet lag, PMS, sleep disorders and conditions related to the body's daily rhythms. Exposure to certain colors has also been found to affect behavior, mood and physiological functions.
Ocular as well as general phototherapy has become one of the fastest growing areas in clinical research and health care.
PHOTOTHERAPY AND VISION
Not all retinal (light-sensitive) nerves in the eyes serve vision. Some connect the retina directly to non-visual brain centers such as the hypothalamus and pineal gland. These centers influence electrical, chemical and hormonal balances, which affect all body functions including vision. Years of clinical application and research have demonstrated that certain selected light frequencies (colors), applied by way of the eyes to these centers, can produce beneficial results in the body.
Patients are diagnosed by symptoms, vision evaluation, visual/motor performance and peripheral vision sensitivity. They may have blurred vision, a crossed or lazy eye, double vision or poor academic achievement. If appropriate, they are treated by way of their eyes with selected visible light seen as colors.
When Syntonic treatments are indicated, this becomes an additional procedure of care and typically is utilized with each therapy visit.
WHAT HAS RESEARCH SHOWN?
Controlled clinical studies by Dr. Robert Michael Kaplan and Dr. Jacob Lieberman proved that the usual result of this relatively short-term treatment is improvement in visual skills, peripheral vision, memory, behavior, mood, general performance and academic achievement.
They confirmed that large numbers of children with learning problems have a reduction in sensitivity of their peripheral vision. During and after phototherapy vision and visual skills. Control subjects who did not receive therapy showed no improvement in their peripheral vision, symptoms or performance.
Syntonic phototherapy, properly guided and supervised, is an additional effective method of treatment to resolve many conditions associated with inefficient visual function.
